About the South Asian American Vascular Society
Empowering South Asian vascular surgeons through mentorship, community, and advancement of excellence in care
Our Mission
The mission of the South Asian American Vascular Society (SAAVS) is to serve as a global community for vascular surgeons of South Asian heritage.
We are dedicated to improving vascular health across the South Asian diaspora and the South Asian subcontinent through fellowship, education, collaborative research, and meaningful partnerships with regional and national vascular societies in the United States and around the world.
SAAVS strives to support the career development of vascular surgeons of South Asian origin by fostering mentorship, research opportunities, and professional advancement.
We are committed to being an inclusive and supportive organization for medical students, residents, and fellows—providing opportunities for networking, collaboration, and presentation of scholarly work.
At our core, SAAVS champions diversity, equity, and inclusion in vascular education, training, and research—both within our membership and in the broader field of vascular surgery.
Our History
2010 - SAAVS Officially Forms
In 2010 a group of young vascular surgeons of South Asian descent started meeting regularly to share anecdotes about patient care, professional advice, and form a supportive community. While this group initial served in primarily a social capacity the SAAVS quickly grew in membership and it became apparent that both the personal and career development of South Asian vascular surgeons could and should be supported by the SAAVS. The SAAVS serves as a voice for vascular surgeons of South Asian descent.
20XX - Inaugaral Annual Meeting
SAAVS held its inaugural meeting in [Year]—a landmark gathering that brought together South Asian vascular surgeons from across the country. The event marked the beginning of a unified effort to foster mentorship, build community, and amplify the voices of South Asian professionals in vascular surgery.
Present Day - SAAVS Continues to Thrive
Today, SAAVS proudly represents a network of over 50 members worldwide. Our commitment to inclusion, representation, and education remains steadfast—principles that have guided our mission from the very beginning and continue to shape our path forward.
